School Information
Welcome to St. Katharine Drexel Elementary!
At SKD, parents, students and staff share the hope that each year will bring outstanding achievement in education, in community spirit, and in affirming our faith in God. Realization of that hope requires both commitment and a plan of action. Continued prayers, participation and a spirit of cooperation are essential to its success. We plan our curriculum to meet the high standards that characterize Catholic education. Our goals focus on areas of knowledge to be studied, skills to be acquired, and habits and attitudes to be developed.
We are excited for the opportunity to serve the families at SKD. The staff shares in the commitment to excellence and the desire for our students to grow in their faith life. Each child is our priority and we look forward to working with all of the students and their families.

Principal's Message
The staff has many plans underway for the 2024-2025 school year and would like to extend a special welcome to all new and returning families. We feel so fortunate to be able to share our faith in a Catholic school and would like to thank you for making this school truly a special place to be!
As you and your family make plans for the year ahead, I want to invite and encourage you to play an active role in your child's education. Parenting is an awesome responsibility. It is comforting to know that there are others who are willing to be true partners with you in the growth and education of your children. Parents who choose a Catholic school for the education of their children also choose to be a part of a powerful network of people who share common Christian beliefs and values. School researchers call this value-added benefit of community "social capital." They have found that social capital adds real value to the overall school experience for children and their families. Children achieve greater academic and social gains when they spend their school days in an environment where the greater Catholic school community supports them.
I am proud to be principal of your child's Catholic elementary school. St. Katharine Drexel is a great place for families! We have a community who share a common belief in Christian values brought together for the common purpose of educating children in a Christ-filled environment.
Blessings,
Stacy Charron, Principal
History
St. Katharine Drexel Elementary is the newest Catholic elementary school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and is part of the Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools. In response to the growing demand for Catholic education from the families in the west side of Sioux Falls and surrounding areas, St. Katharine Drexel Elementary opened its doors in the fall of 2008 as a preschool through first grade school. Since opening, one grade was added each year and classes are now offered through sixth grade. While 97% of the students are Catholic, students of other religions are welcomed. Beyond the natural growth in enrollment, all facets of the school life have continued to accelerate: academic offerings, faith development, parent/community involvement and student opportunities. In 2019, St. Katharine Drexel Elementary received a Blue Ribbon School award.
